The anthology will contain both fiction and non-fiction stories, and is being crowdfunded on Kickstarter. A remarkable sampling of stories is listed in the Kickstarter page: An evening discussing the terrors of Donald Trump at a Japanese bar for trans men A trans woman uses MDMA (with complex results) A trans woman visits her grandmother for Christmas (with complex results) Visual essay on sex work, trans masculinity, and testosterone A practical guide to using paganism to navigate workplace terror Trans women pilot giant robots with impeccable synch ratios Toxic masculinity haunts a friendship between a butch lesbian and trans man A devotional essay about angels beyond gender or understanding Two trans women named Sweetness and Lightning blow up a car, watch Akira, and live happily ever after In addition to adding trans representation to the comics genre, this anthology looks really, really cool. Breast Cancer Treatment and Guidelines in Older Women - Free Essay Example
Many people in todayââ¬â¢s society are getting cancer from many things we consume. There are many methods and results I will be talking about. There was a study population of 1,568 that were 55 years old or older. This study was happening at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. They treated these people at the center during the time 1997-2002 for stage Stage IIA and I. Stage I and Stage IIIA are cancers that are present and the higher the number the larger the cancer or tumor has spread. What the center did was look at the treatments to determine guidelines. The treatments they used to determine were definitive surgical therapy, adjuvant radiation therapy after breast-conserving surgery, post mastectomy radiation, adjuvant chemotherapy, and adjuvant hormonal therapy. Age, level of education, race, marital status, and disease score were included in all final people was an impact in the treatment. ââ¬Å"Treatment dates were used to determine which guideline was applicable at the time a patient was being treated if there were any changes in treatment recommendations.â⬠(By) Accurate surgical treatment was characterized as lumpectomy, fractional mastectomy, segmental mastectomy, altered radical mastectomy, subcutaneous mastectomy, skin-sparing mastectomy, or radical mastectomy. Many calculated investigations were performed to decide the process between age and rule agreement, change of potential factor. Results In the result about 1,568 women were included in the study. Ladies at 65 years old or older were more likely to be white, unmarried, and have only a high school education. As they believed, each older group of women had a higher had a higher percentage of women with sufficiently conditions, steady with the ageing process. ââ¬Å"Significant differences were detected in estrogen receptor status, nuclear grade, and presence of intramammary lymphatic invasion, with older women less likely to have estrogen receptor-negative tumors, high-grade tumors, or tumors with intramammary lymphatic invasion.â⬠(By) ââ¬Å"The results were high for surgical therapy (90.4%), adjuvant radiation after breast-conserving surgery (94.2%), and adjuvant hormonal therapy (93.7%). However, overall concordance was lower for adjuvant chemotherapy (70.7%) and for adjuvant post mastectomy radiation (54.1%).â⬠(By) Surgical therapy, adjuvant radiation after breast conservation, adjuvant chemo therapy, and adjuvant hormonal therapy was a low score for women. In univariate examination, low tumor arranges, tall score, and understanding age 75 year old or more seasoned was related with need of conclusive surgical treatment. Ladies with stage II or III infection at determination had 4.33 times the chances of having conclusive surgery compared with ladies with organize I disease. ââ¬Å" Women who were age 75 years or older were also significantly less likely to receive definitive surgical therapy.â⬠(By M.D. Anderson Cancer Center). A disease score of 1 to 2 was too related with a diminished probability of being treated with radiation. Additionally a disease score of 3 or higher was related with diminished chances of accepting radiation, but was not factually critical. Nonwhite race was associated with decreased probability of being treated with radiation after breast-conserving surgery. ââ¬Å"In the unadjusted analysis of concordance with chemotherapy guidelines, higher clinical stage, lower comorbidity scores, estrogen receptor-negative tumors, high nuclear grade, and younger age were all significantly associated with guideline concordance.â⬠(By M.D. Anderson Cancer Center) Ladies who had tumors that communicated the estrogen receptor were essentially less likely to be given chemotherapy than ladies with estrogen receptor-negative tumors. ââ¬Å"After adjusting for other known predictive factors, low tumor stage and advanced age were still significant predictors of discordance with hormone therapy guidelines, although marital status was not.â⬠(By M.D. Anderson Cancer Center) Stress and Self esteem during treatment The essay I will be talking about is a study on ââ¬Å"identify common stressors faced by breast cancer survivors involved in dragon boating, (2) examine the conceptual and statistical factor groupings of the stressors, (3) identify differences in stressor factors based on treatment characteristics, and (4) examine the associations between stressor factors and two indicators of self-esteem.â⬠(By Journal of Womenââ¬â¢s Health) Many women 1 in 9 will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime and 1 in 27 women will die from breast cancer. ââ¬Å"Over the past 20 years, survival rates have improved considerably throughout the western world, contributing to many women living with the identity of a cancer survivor.â⬠(By Journal of Womenââ¬â¢s Health) A popular activity that many breast cancer survivors is dragon boating. ââ¬Å"In dragon boating is associated with stressful experiences, including body-related anxiety and reminders of death, illness, and recurrence.â⬠(By Journal of Womenââ¬â¢s Health) The main focus on the study is how dragon boating racing is in common with stress and self esteem with breast cancer survivors. In the study there were 470 females that were in dragon boating and were given ten dollars to participate in the study. The women were between ages 20 and 80 years old. ââ¬Å"Social stressors include making social connections with other survivors, difficulty discussing health information with family or friends, experiencing stress in social settings, and loss of friendships and social connections.â⬠(By Journal of Womenââ¬â¢s Health) The encounters of stress may not be the same for breast cancer survivors have experienced particular cancer medications and for those ladies who were analyzed with cancer for five years long compared with ladies analyzed not long ago. ââ¬Å"Secondary aim of the current study was to quantitatively examine differences in stress experiences for diverse cancer characteristics, such as treatment types and time since diagnosis.â⬠(By Journal of Womenââ¬â¢s Health) During this study they had had this dragon boating group fill out this questionnaire. The 28 stressors physical, emotional, and intentions. ââ¬Å"Additional stressors were participating in physical activity, participating in dragon boating, feelings of increased muscularity, and forming relationships with other survivors involved in physical activity.â⬠(By Journal of Womenââ¬â¢s Health) On the questionnaire when it asked about how often they are stressed and peoples answers ranged from 5 points scale from never to often. The next question was ââ¬Å"if you have experienced breast cancer, how positive or negative are your emotions related to this experience?â⬠(By Journal of Womenââ¬â¢s Health) People had a score of -3 to positive 3. ââ¬Å"Total score was used to examine the possible grouping of stressors, as scale scores (as opposed to factor scores) are easier to interpret and can allow comparisons with future studies using this scale.â⬠(By Journal of Womenââ¬â¢s Health) Self worth and self-esteem were made into a questionnaire from self-description questionnaires. ââ¬Å"Participants were asked to think about themselves both physically and generally and respond to the items on 6- point scales ranging from 1 (false) to 6 (true).â⬠(By Journal of Womenââ¬â¢s Health) The highest score was on psychological wellbeing. Loss of companions or social associations, restricted contact with the healthcare framework, feeling underweight, and having lymphedema were never experienced by the slightest half of the ladies. ââ¬Å"Survivors reported higher scores for exercise-related stressors than for the other categories of stressor, with these stressors being primarily positively appraised by the women.â⬠(By Journal of Womenââ¬â¢s Health) Lastly many women got high scores on physical self worth.

Milgrams Study of Obedience to Authority - 1244 Words
Stanley Milgram is a famous psychologist who focused his studies on authority and peoples reaction and obedience to it. His famous experiment and its results were groundbreaking in psychology, surprising both psychologists and regular people alike. First I will discuss the reason for Milgrims study of obedience to authority. Then I will explain the experiment, its formulation, and its results. Finally I will cover the influence of the experiment on psychology and society. Stanley Milgrim was born in New York City in 1933, the son of European immigrants. He earned his bachelors degree in Political Sciences from Queens College, where he never even took a course in psychology. He then applied to Harvard for his Ph.D. but was notâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The subjects of the experiment believed that they were taking part in a study on the relationship of learning and punishment. The subject would sit in a room and ask questions to an actor in another room, who was supposed to be another subject. In front of the questioner was a box that had a series of buttons labeled from 15 volts to 450 volts. The subject was told to shock the person every time they answered incorrectly, increasing the voltage each time. As the shocks got worse, the actor would make noise, bang on the wall, yell for help, etc. but the researcher would tell the subject to keep going. Milgrim found, contrary to many psychologists predictions, that sixty-five percent of the subjects delivered the shocks all the way up to 450 volts (Slater). These results were very revealing about peoples obedience to authority. As the subjects in the experiment went on delivering the shocks, they showed signs of deep moral conviction, however they didnt stop delivering the shocks. They continued to inflict severe pain on an innocent individual because an authority figure was telling them to. There were specific instances when a subject said he wanted to stop because he was worried about the healt h of the person he was delivering the shocks to but he continued when the researcher told him that he would accept all responsibility. Should Teenagers Get Cosmetic Surgery - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 8 Words: 2311 Downloads: 10 Date added: 2019/08/07 Category Medicine Essay Level High school Tags: Cosmetic Surgery Essay Did you like this example? Cosmetics surgery on teenagers is a risk to their own bodies. Teenagers dont fully develop until theyre in their early twenties, so for a doctor to let them know if theirs a risk for them after the surgery they cant say because their body isnt yet where they are supposed to be developed. Teenagers dont do research on the surgery so they have little known of the risk they will be taking and just believe what their doctors tell them. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Should Teenagers Get Cosmetic Surgery?" essay for you Create order Surgery is not easy to be paid, in other words, it is expensive. We live in a society where everyone talks about everyone, one remark should not let it get to a teenager, teenagers are just growing. Some bloom sooner or later eventually. Teenagers shouldnt be putting their body in risk at an early age, instead should be loving their selves. à Ages thirteen to twenty-one should not be getting cosmetic surgery because their body dont fully develop till their in their early twenties. Dr. Kirk Brandow says,à breast tissue can continue to grow after the age of sixteen, it is possible that a girl could develop breasts that are a size shes comfortable with, which would eliminate the need for implants. if thats the case and getting implants instead of waiting for your own body to develop will put you in a position where you tell your self, now their too big I dont want these implants in me, and there goes another risky surgery to your own self. It goes for the boys too, they see celebrities with big muscles and want some push up in their arms, but boys stop developing at age 16 but their muscles will continue to grow until they have hit their early twenties. Teenagers need to understand we are all still growing, we are still learning new things everyday. There is an actual growth chart where girls gain weight at the age of eighteen to twenty-one, even with therapy sessions it is not possible to tell exactly if theres going to be a risk in the future after the cosmetic surgery. Teenagers should weight it out before thinking if they want surgery till their in there twenty-one, that way their fully developed. à They say one reason teenagers should get cosmetic surgery is that people can be so cruel whether intentionally or not. An example is, back when I was in high school I was in the hallway with my friend by the locker. Theres a girl next to us putting her books away in her own locker just then someone blurted out to her, Gee, did you see her nose? while passing by when she had turned around. I had went up to her and told he to ignore it, but she just ran from me and headed to the bathroom. In like maybe a month it was almost Christmas I had recently seen her and she looked so different. She had gotten her nose done, a nose job. She looks happy in the hallways and her head held high. They say cosmetic surgeries should be able to be done with teens because they will feel better about them self. However, willing to get a nose job or any other cosmetic surgeries come with risks and expenses. It comes with many risks while getting it done, anesthesia risk infection, poor wound healing o r scarring, permanent nerve damage, difficulty breathing and also skin discoloration and swelling. Her nose is still growing we are only fourteen, for her nose to be growing after she have gotten it done will be affecting her in the future. On top of that its expensive, why put you self in debt over one remark of a teenager. We all got flaws. A nose job cost thousands pf money and insurance dont cover it, it all comes out your own pocket. Just the nose job cost 4,694 without any of the anthesis or the operating facilities. With adding that it will range up to 5,000 to 10,000 for a nose job that you want over someone rude comment. Teenagers are here to grow and develop, everyone got their own flaws. Dont nobody need to be putting their self in risk as well in debt too or your own mom. Next thing you know were in our senior year in high school, she became homeschooled because her nose started to get droopy. Medical doctor Phillp S. Schoenfeld said, as we age the support structures of the nose that provides the nose with shape and stability will stretch , elongate and weaken. The nose loses its shape and thats when the tip droops. Our nose develops over time, so causing to get rhinoplasty can cause you to have difficulties in the future. à Teenagers that know they are a different identity should be able to get cosmetic surgery at a early age. They should be able to feel comfortable within them selfs and also proud of coming out. This give reasons why cosmetic surgery should be allowed for teenagers. This is not a phase this is what I want to do with my body. In contrast, they shouldnt be allowed to get cosmetic surgery because is not a phase but its early for their body to change drastically. Study finds health risk for transgender women on hormone therapy, the study looked at records of five-thousands transgender people and found higher risks of blood clots, stroke, and heart attack for transgender women, July 9th, 2018. Dr. Gabrielle Caswell, president of the Cosmetic Physicians Society of Australasia, said Children should not receive cosmetic or surgical procedures of any kind unless they are compelling medical or psychological reasons to do so. They can do their cosmetic surgery but when their older, when your brain has developed and mentality change. Cosmetic surgery is not easy, is changing to another person that you were not born with. Teenagers should not be allowed and be banned. In Queensland, physicians who operate on children without good reason can face two years in imprisonment. à Regret rates highest in male-to-female reassignment operations. A 2011 study found that after sex reassignment surgery, more than three hundred Swedish transsexuals faced a higher risk of mortality, suicide ideation, and psychiatric issues compared to the rest of the population. The researchers concluded, Our findings suggest that sex reassignment, although alleviating gender dysphoria, may not suffice as treatment for transsexualism, and should inspire improved psychiatric and somatic care after sex reassignment for this patient group. When going through a process like this, need to make sure this is right for you and have been to a psychiatric hospital to talk about it and make sure in your mentality you want this, but you cant if youre a teenager because your brain has not developed yet. If your brain has not mature yet then you shouldnt be getting no plastic surgery because in the long run after the surgery it may has its side effect on how you feel with your self maybe even worse. When having a transgender surgery, the expense is out of your pocket but way more than just a cosmetic surgery. A gender reassignment surgery seven-thousand to twenty-four-thousand for male-to-female. Female-to-male can be up too fifty thousand not including the warrant extra care. If your younger than eighteen, there is not job thats can afford to pay that off and your parents shouldnt be paying for it because in the long run if for you and not your parents. Theyll support you but it should be your doing if you cant then wait a proper age, do not put your self in debt! à Transforming your body is not an easy decision to make, especially you know the risk effects. People have died with cosmetic surgery. Leah Cambridge died on the operating table at Elite Aftercare In Izmir. She was on the table under a Brazilian butt lift procedures, which reshapes the buttocks by transferring fat from areas including the stomach and back. A study was shown In the US found one in three-thousands patients died from the popular procedure. This is why there is a huge risk in why as cosmetic surgery should wait till your over twenty-one. Your mentality and brain had have developed more as in your body as well. Doctors will go ahead with the procedure but they know the risks, and you are even putting them in risk by them losing the job they have worked for. à I feel I am mature enough to get a cosmetic surgery if I wanted too. Its my body right I can do whatever I want to it. However, people might have the idea that their mature enough when in reality they might not actually be. One way to see if teenagers are mature enough for this stage of surgery is to screen potential patients using psychological testing. This testing will ask you questions on why you want the surgery? What will benefit for you? Knowing you won.t look like how you are after the surgery has happened. You need to understand everything thats going to happen and being able to deal with the changes you will start overcoming because you are going to feel different as in, people are going to visually different too. Surgery is not easy to take in, need all the support you can get. Teenagers dont understand how one surgery can really change them for who they are, will maybe start acting like their better because they got surgery instead of loving your own self. If a teenager can live with their imperfections, its better to not take the risk on your own self. Sometimes the surgery you will be getting can be dissatisfied with the results of their surgery and up feeling sad and going to depressed mood. Not all surgeries go perfectly especially if your body keeps changing every day at a young age, it will only make matters worse. They expected to be perfect, but when they realized they didnt need the plastic surgery to make them feel more confident or happy in the long run, then they start regretting and realizing them their original self-was perfection. Regretting a surgery is not easy and If you are not mature enough your able to hit a depression mode if that was the case. Surgery usually doesnt come out the way you want to look or want to be looked by other people after a surgery your usually going to be swollen, redness, pain, bruising and just very uncomfortable. Takes months and months to heal but within those months even risk can occur w hile healing. If you dont like scars, really prevent your self from having a cosmetic surgery because scarring is permanent. à Plastic surgery wont make people like you. If youre a person with a bad personality or stuck up, changing your looks wont make people come to you.à Plastic surgery should not be used for people to like you unless you need surgery because people will like you for who you are not for fixing your nose, lips, and body. Theyll see the real you. People wanting to do cosmetic surgery should not be doing it for other because if thats the case then youre risking your own life for them. à A cosmetic artist Bobbi Brown wrote a book on how telling women to accept for what they cannot change them selfs. She has studies that most womens grow into their bodies the way they are supposed to and almost all of the petty complaints a teenager has such an excess fat or big nose are changed once we hit out twenty-one. She knew a person, a woman that wanted surgery back then but she realizes she did not have money for what she wanted. She wanted to fix her nose and the belly gut is a fatness that hangs a little over thats part of your stomach. She was very self-conscious about it and was only seventeen years old. She just waited till she had a job that can afford such a surgery since insurance wouldnt cover it. Over the years, she worked and worked until finally, she was twenty-three had a stable job too do the procedures just then she looked at her self and seen what she hasnt seen since she was seventeen. She never really pay mind to it no more but she believed that actually waiting till your body has developed to what is supposed to be, her nose came to a smaller shaped over the years and did not realize till now and shes has been working in an active environment she lost the baby gut the fatness in the belly throughout the years. All she did was wait and made sure thats what she wanted and she was smart to not put her self in debt for her future and now she feels better than she has before. If she would have done a procedure back then and its been six years her nose would have in a state to redo again because her nose has shifted and she would have a scar on her stomach fatness when she could have lost it her self. Her body grew into a mature body state and no complications throughout her self. à In conclusion, cosmetic surgery should not be done on teens, it should be banned till their body has fully developed. Bodies dont stop growing until they have hit their mid-twenties as well as your brain. Having a mentality for what exactly you want as a teenager will change in the future once you fully understand the risk you will put your self through as well as all the expenses that need to be paid off. Teenagers should wait to make sure if thats what they really want. Cosmetics surgery is not easy to deal with at an early young age and should not be risking your self.

Prejudice, Discrimination, And Stereotypical Situation
For many years, people have witness or been a victim of prejudice, discrimination, and stereotypical situation. For some time now, the class has been reading the novel ââ¬ËThe Helpââ¬â¢. The Help demonstrates many events referring to these three terms. Discrimination is an unjustified negative behavior towards a group or its members. Whereas, prejudice is a preconceived negative judgement of a group and its individual members. A belief about the personal attributes of a group of people is known as stereotypes. Iââ¬â¢ll now share a few scenarios from the novel to better understand the terms. In Chapter 6, Miss Hilly stated ââ¬Å"everybody knows they carry different kinds of diseases than we do. I double.â⬠(Stockett, 2009, p. 25) Basically, Miss Hillyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦... This is dirty out here, Mae Mobley. Youââ¬â¢ll catch diseases! No no no!â⬠(Stockett, 2009, p. 134) From my understanding, Miss Leefort accusing Aibileenââ¬â¢s bathroom contamin ated because sheââ¬â¢s Black and Blacks are dangerously disgusting. According the textbook, stereotypes are negative interpretations that mark prejudice often supported by negative beliefs. Miss Leefort got the idea of an outside bathroom from Miss Hilly, and quickly assume it was a great idea because Miss Hilly has one. Instead of disagreeing with the idea, Miss Leefort probably felt unwelcome if she didn t do so. Regarding to the stereotype, the Black maids are the women who cleans, prepared supper, organize, and raise the kids of the Whites. The question you may ask, ââ¬Å"so how and why Blacks deserve to use an outside bathroom or even be considered dirty and carry diseases?â⬠Blacks have been mistreated and accused wrongly for decades, yet Blacks aren t the only one dealing with stereotypes. After graduating from university, Skeeter expected to have children with a wealthy husband, but she returned home with her diploma and the potential to become a journalist. Keats and Shelley Free Essays
The works of Keats and Shelley have attracted the attention of many scholars of English literature. In this essay, an attempt is made to compare the literary works of John Keats and Percy Shelley. This comparison is relevant due to the fact that both the poets were the contemporaries. We will write a custom essay sample on Keats and Shelley or any similar topic only for you Order Now John Keats can be considered as belonging to the Romantic school in English literature because he wrote many poems regarding the importance of love which he considered as the basis of living as without love there is no goal for human existence. This indicates the spirit for life possessed by Keats. In some of his poems Keats expressed his love for the lady who becomes the central character of his poems.à However, there are also poems which reflected the sadness, melancholy and utter despair and hopelessness regarding the human existence. This can be experienced by the study of his poem ââ¬Å"Ode on Melancholyâ⬠. This poem demonstrates the fact the human pleasure is temporary and it is susceptible to miseries and pain. In this poem, Keats seems to suggest the temporary nature of happiness and that life is illusion as always it is not possible to achieve what one desires. On the other hand in his ââ¬Å"Ode on a Grecian Urnâ⬠there is a different feeling expressed by the poet. In this poem Keats is full of happiness and positive feelings as he believes that life is full of happiness and it is beautiful. In this poem, several times there is the use of the word ââ¬Ëhappyââ¬â¢ which indicates the mood of the poet while writing this poem. In fact his ââ¬Å"Ode on Melancholyâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Ode on a Grecian Urnâ⬠shows the two different views. Nevertheless, they also reflect the reality of life. Thus, Keats expressed both positive and negative feelings in his poems. These two different poems seem to indicate the contradictory nature of his poems. Nevertheless, melancholy is required to realize the value of happiness. Hence, in order to fully appreciate happiness or joy one should be aware of melancholy as well. One can even find the fact that melancholy is in fact necessary to enjoy the experience of happiness. Hence two different poems have been composed by Keats to fully appreciate joys and problems in life. The poems of Keats remind us that after all we are humans and that humans are mortals. Keats also speaks about the inevitability of death and he romanticizes the pleasure of painless death.(Victoria, 2000) Keatsââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Ode on a Grecian Urnâ⬠and Shelleyââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Ode to the West Windâ⬠were composed during the same year. Being Romantic poets the critics might expect both of them to express the same feelings. However, both the poems give different messages. Shelly seems to believe in change and hence always there is hope as misery should be followed by happiness just like there are different seasons. Thus, Shelly is more positive and hopeful of the present world although he accepts that there is both melancholy and happiness in oneââ¬â¢s life. Keats seems to believe in static life and life without much of activities while Shelly believed in life full of motion, change and dramatic developments. The changes in nature are represented in his poem. Here for Shelly wind becomes symbolic expression of motion and change. The poet is also optimistic of death because when there is death, there is birth also. Shelly seems to believe that change is life and life is change. Shelly speaks of god of change although this god of change may mean of god of destruction. This implies that he respects even the negative developments in the human life. This is proved by the fact that the poet even welcomes death because it is followed by birth and thus there is hope even in death. Thus, when compared with Keats, Shelley is more optimistic of life with motion and he enjoys both good and bad experiences in life. He claims to be a product of autumn. He knows the happiness and melancholy of an autumn creature. For Keats beauty is seen in the stillness of the urn. He enjoys the motionless life of the urn. In the work of Keats there is reference to the melancholy life. In spite of these differences, in their different poems, both Keats and Shelley discuss regarding the hidden meaning of silence which is described by the use of different expressions. (Victoria, 2000) Although both Keats and Shelly belonged to the school of Romanticism in English literature and although they wrote the poems during the same year, there are significant differences between their poems ââ¬Å"Ode on a Grecian Urnâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Ode to the West Windâ⬠. While Keats expressed his love for stillness, Shelly considered life as full of motion and action.
